The term, ‘Hamletism’ seems to have been used by the Romanticsin 1840’s, . . . however, nobody seems to know who coined the term itself . . . Mallarmé and Turgeniev both use it . . . given Turgeniev’s many long stays in France it is possible that he picked it up there, also that he brought it with him to France . . .
The term Hamletism is as enigmatic as Hamlet . . .
