Subject: A New Shakespeare Behind Bars Opportunity
I am sending this information along from Curt Tofteland, the founder of the Shakespeare Behind Bars program many list members will be familiar with. For more information, please contact Curt directly:
Shakespeare Behind Bars is bringing filmmaker Tom Magill from Northern Ireland to the USA in November! Tom is most famous for his film Mickey B (based on Macbeth). It was filmed in a political prison in Northern Ireland using inmates to play the characters. Check-out the film and Tom’s amazing work at his website: http://esc-film.com. Tom will be in-country roughly November 9 - 24.
Tom's & my schedule thus far is:
November 11-12 - Emory University in Atlanta;
November 15-16 - Notre Dame University in South Bend.
Dates we are looking to fill are: November 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23.
I am writing to discover if you would like to bring Tom and his work to your campus.
For Emory University and Notre Dame University, both Tom & I will be in-residence. We will screen both films— Mickey B and Shakespeare Behind Bars, facilitate an audience talk-back following each screening, and visit classrooms. This format is the longest and thus has the largest budget. If your budget doesn’t permit this format, you do not have to involve Shakespeare Behind Bars. Although I am interested in exposing your students and faculty to both Tom’s and my prison work, this is more about Tom’s visit and revealing his magnificent work to Americans.
Departments you might collaborate with to fund this adventure include: Theatre, Film, Communications, English, Political Science, History, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Religion, etc.
If you are interested in pursuing this opportunity, email me. We can develop a plan and a budget that suits your resources.
