Subject:     RE: ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Starring Hailee Steinfeld

Mari Bonomi objects to the “stupidification” of the text in the coming R&J movie.

But part of a director’s dilemma, save fidelity, is also to communicate with the audience, stupefied or not. Making bastards of Shakespeare’s words aren’t legible in the director’s intentions, but being understood is, like any decent director.

If a teacher cares more about the plays’s text then she shouldn’t use class to show movies. More, if you’re a serious purist you’d teach the plays in their original pronunciation besides.
