Subject:     Malcolm Evans, Man of Mystery

I’m delighted that Robert Shaughnessy has rediscovered Malcolm Evans. As one of Evans’s letters says, I have some shame-faced responsibility for introducing him to the word ‘semiotics’. But he himself has a lot to answer for. I remain suspicious about his reference to myself and Acker Bilk. He must know that my true Penelope was always Victor Silvester.
