It is not often in these columns that I hear a public supporting voice. Thanks to Gerald Downs for agreeing that the citation is virtually meaningless. I’d like to push the matter one step further: how did we get to this place in Shakespeare criticism where not only does such baloney get written and published but no one notices and even worse no one cares.

 

The oh-so-bored Harry Berger, for example.
