Subject:    RE: SHAKSPER: Anne Barton

I was much moved by Harry’s post about Anne Righter Barton. A story: Anne and I were in Moscow for a conference on “Shakespeare on the Soviet Stage” in December 1989. Over lunch one day, Anne was sat next to a young academic, Lali Keresalidze, who said “I really admire the work of Anne Righter. What happened to her? She doesn’t seem to have published anything for some time.” Anne: “Er, well, it’s me.” And Lali and Anne became good friends immediately.
