The Royal Shakespeare Company announced today via Twitter that they are planning to release the DVD of Richard II this spring!!
“We are hoping to release a DVD of the Richard II live broadcast in Spring 2014. We’ll post on Twitter when we know more”
The movie theater rollout of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Richard II proved a big draw at the box office. Picturehouse Entertainment, a U.K. film distributor released the numbers in November, Richard II U.K. screening garnered more than £1 million in box office receipts. The screening was also streamed into schools around the UK, broadcast live across several countries and was viewed in hundreds of cinemas around the world in the months of November and December 2013.
The production was filmed at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon 13th November 2013, using multiple cameras around the stage and auditorium, with John Wyver as producer. Wyver is the Media Associate at the RSC and was also involved in the filming of the Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Hamlet.
As of now, no information is available regarding international DVD release plans.
This Richard II production is currently in the last week of it’s run, with the final performance Saturday 25th January at the Barbican Theatre in London.
