Subject: MV Casket Choices
In "the Merchant of Venice", Portia's father has set up a system of
casket choices in order to select a husband for her. The requirements
are that if the suitor selects incorrectly he must leave and never
reveal his choice and never marry. Yet the poem in the silver casket
states "marry who you will"........what's up with the discrepancy? Any
suggestions ? I never noticed it before and one of my students picked up
on it.
