Regarding Nick Ranson’s request for information about the RSC’s Richard III recording from 1984, SHAKSPER readers might find the following helpful:

RSC Video Recordings

Since 1982 the Royal Shakespeare Company have made video recordings of productions in their main theatres (RST, Barbican, The Pit, Swan Theatre, Courtyard), and less consistently from The Other Place. They are part of the RSC Archive kept at the Shakespeare Centre Library and Archive where the copies may be viewed for a small charge. For further information go to the Archive Catalogue site at http://bit.ly/daszfd, where you can consult the RSC Performance Database (who did what, where, and when) and the linked archive catalogue where the videos are catalogued. Click on “Theatre” and put in a search for “video” for the full list.

The SBT’s website, containing information about the Collections, is www.shakespeare.org.uk, and the email for enquiries about the Collections is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
