Subject:    Editor’s Prerogative: Places to Stay in London This August

Dear Friends,

During my last visit to the ISC, I did not visit London because of the Olympics; my mistake, I realized later.

This trip I plan to spend something like a week in London, primarily to attend the theaters.

In the past, I have stayed in Cartwright Gardens; the hotel I used seems booked during the week I am looking at, the week after the ISC (beginning August 9th), and the other hotels there seem to have gotten more upscale than I am currently willing to pay. I have stayed near Euston Station, but that hotel also seems booked for when I am interested. I have stayed near London Bridge, but that was only for a few days not a week, and I really don’t need a concierge. I have stayed near Russell Square, but one of the places was unacceptable and the other is in the £160 a night range (I am retired with a daughter in an exclusive private college). In 2010 with my daughters and son-in-law, I stayed near the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in a small family hotel that was fine and in my price range—between £75 and £100 a day for one. I am willing to pay more but not too much more, if at all possible.

To get to the theaters, I need as much as anything to be within a few blocks of a tube station, since I have a challenge walking greater distances without much difficulty.

Does anyone have a favorite, modestly priced place to stay near a tube station that you could recommend that I look into?

Thanks in advance for any responses, which I shall consider private messages to me.

Hardy
