Subject:    New Year

Dear Subscribers,

Apologies for the delay. There are always some administrative tasks to do at the beginning of a new year, and I always manage to mess them up, requiring the kind intervention of Ron Severdia.

Everything appears to be in order now.

So . . . . . . .

Happiest of New Years to all.

As amazing as it seems to me, this is the twenty-ninth year of SHAKSPER. I could provide a history, but that can be found many times in the Archive.

I have been thinking of emeritizing myself at the thirtieth year, and I am pleased to report that Stephanie Chamberlain has been doing a marvelous job as Associate Editor. She has been learning the intricacies of Joomla, the SHAKSPER platform, and the rather OCD instructions I provide about formatting articles and newsletters. I will be on some retreats in 2018, and Stephanie will take over for me if not for a period before. We should all be grateful that someone of Stephanie’s talent and achievements has volunteered to do this work.

On a personal note, in addition to the chronic pain with which I deal, I have been suffering from chronic migraines—migraines almost every day for the past five months. Unfortunately, my health insurance seems rather insensitive to my needs, limiting the number of medications I can get that actually work.  However, pending Sessions’ intervention, I should be getting some relief soon from the alternative medical options that it took the State of Maryland five years to implement.

The past year’s level of discourse on SHAKSPER has been encouraging to me and my hope for the New Year is that interesting and even provocative exchanges may continue throughout 2018.

Best wishes to all,

Hardy
