In answer to David Levine's questions:
>The 1984 Swedish TV production of HAMLET, directed by Radnar Lyth.
* is not currently available. A producer I know is going after the
title, but no progress has been made yet.
> The Kozintsev films of HAMLET and KING LEAR.
* King Lear is currently available as a poor-quality, expensive,
semi-official bootleg. The gentleman who owns the rights to both films
has been trying to obtain clean copies of both from Russia for the past
year. I should think progress should be made shortly. Hamlet (or
Gamlet, as it was known originally) is only available if copied off
television.

> directed by Trevor Nunn ten years apart, both starring Ian McKellan.
> The 1973 taping of the RSC ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA with Janet Suzman and
> Richard Johnson, directed by Trevor Nunn.
*I don't have any information on these titles, and would also appreciate
any leads sent my way.

Comment: Re: SHK 9.0685 Q: Hamlets on Video
Both Kevin Kline Hamlets that PBS aired (1986 and 1990) are,
unfortunately, not available through PBS or any other video archive.
I've done a lot of checking around for both versions, and have had no
success except from a high school teacher of mine who recorded the '90
version when it was shown.

Well I don't know if they are available for purchase or rental or not,
but I have them all on video (PAL) because they were recently broadcast
on the Foxtel cable network here in Australia.

Not here in Australia it isn't. You can buy the BBC Hamlet at most
video shops for about $50-$60 Australian, along with about half of the
series. Of course they are in PAL format. I just wish they would
release the rest of series.

All three of these videos are available through the RSC. If you are in
America though, I think that they are only available in PAL format.

Let's not forget the very useful Shakespeare-video online supplier known
as Poor Yorick: http://granite.cyg.net/~yorick/willscat.html Alas, they
tell me that the old Olivier Henry V is no longer available.
Very vexing...

To the best of my knowledge Stewart play Claudius in the BBC production
of Hamlet, though I have never watched it.
You might want to consider the TNG stories that features Shakespeare
either as language or as an acted scene: Manage a Troi (spelling?)
springs to mind, there are other that I cannot remember off hand, but I
am willing to look them up if you like. There is the episode where Data
and Picard do the Pre-Agincourt thing on the holo-suite.
Consider also the book "Dark Mirror" where Picard travels to the mirror
universe and examines a copy of their version of the S-man. he reads
"the quality of mercy" speech from MOV only there it is all twisted and
Shylock gets his pound of flesh.

Does anyone know where I could get a PAL version of Derek Jarman's film
of _The Tempest_?
Thanks in advance.
