In Gilberto Freyre's classic study of Brazilian society, The Masters and
the Slaves, he argues that onset of puberty is accelerated in hot
climates (I think the argument is now out of favor), and supports his
case with a large number of end of the page citations to medical and
anthropological books and articles dealing with dates of puberty, of
course from his point of view. However, those materials, and sources
cited in them, are likely to contain leads to records of puberty in 16th
c. England or at least other countries in Europe. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Tony B.
