Subject: A Midsumer Night's Dream

The RSC Midsummer Night's Dream featuring Alex Jennings, Lindsay Duncan,
Desmond Barrit, Barry Lynch, directed by Adrian Noble has just been
released on video (in America, anyway) by Miramax.

I imagine they're trying to cash in on the release of Shakespeare in
Love (also a Miramax film) and may even be trying to ride on the
publicity coat tails if the Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer, Rupert
Everett, Stanley Tucci, Calista Flockhart version directed by Michael
Hoffman which hasn't been released on video (by 20th Century Fox) yet.

I found it in my neighborhood video store. When I went up to the counter
to rent it, the young man shyly, patiently asked me: "You know this
isn't what you think it is, don't you?"

Noble has added the device of a young boy, whose dream is the play. The
costumes are the same as the production I saw on tour, as is the cast.
Some scenes are just as I remember them, others have been completely

It's defiantly worth an evening.
