Subject: Pop Reference

I have a pop Shakespeare reference that even Richard Burt may not have
found. A new Singaporean film -- yes, there are such things -- called
The Chicken Rice War is a rewriting of Romeo and Juliet with the two
families recast as proprietors of rival food stalls in a working class
Singapore neighborhood. The lovers are supposed to have met in a
university production of R&J and converse intermittently in the language
of the play. Whether the film will ever be distributed outside this
region is an open question, but it's doing good local business.
