Subject:        MLA and the Folger

For those attending the MLA Conference in DC:

You are cordially invited to visit the Folger Shakespeare Library's
Great Hall and Reading Rooms at a reception on Thursday, 28 December,
from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

The exhibition "Writing on Hands: Memory and Knowledge in Early Modern
Europe" will be on display in the Great Hall.  The exhibit focuses on
the hand as a meeting place of matter, mind, and spirit.  More than
eighty images from the fifteenth through the seventeenth centuries
illuminate early modern conceptual frameworks for learning, remembering,
and recalling practical and abstract ideas by means of the hand.  The
exhibition illustrates the vital role of the hand in the acquisition and
dissemination of knowledge from such diverse realms as anatomy,
psychology, mathematics, music, rhetoric, religion, palmistry, and

Shenandoah Shakespeare Express's Twelfth Night Co-Directed by Ralph Alan
Cohen and Stephen Booth DECEMBER 27 - JANUARY 7, 2001

internationally acclaimed Shenandoah Shakespeare Express produces
