Subject:        Hamlet on Screen 28 April 2001

A one-day conference called Hamlet on Screen will take place on Saturday
28 April 2001 at Shakespeare's Globe London. The conference is a Globe
Education collaboration with King's College London and it brings
scholars from around the world together to discuss all aspects of filmed

Plenary speakers are Judith Buchanan (University of York), Deborah
Cartmell (De Montfort University), and Russell Jackson (University of
Birmingham) and amongst the seminar papers will be contributions from
Sam Crowl, John Stokes, and Mark Thornton Burnett. Films to be discussed
include Ernst Lubitsch's To Be or Not To Be (1942), Almereyda's Hamlet
(2000), and Sarah Bernhardt's final duelling sequence (5.2) for
Phono-Cinema-Theatre (1900).  My conference co-convenor Tony Howard
(University of Warwick) will chair seminar sessions and so will Ann
Thompson (King's College London).
