Subject: Tony Butler's Workshops

In light of our more or less continual discussion in one form or another
of ways to teach Shakespeare, I thought SHAKSPERians might enjoy this
article in today's Christian Science Monitor web site about Tony
Butler's workshops in Stratford and Edinburgh. I give you the URL not
only because the article is a tad long to quote in toto, but also
because it includes some excellent pictures.

This link takes you to the Features section on the left-hand side of the
page, and then you click on the article "Shakespeare Workshops: much ado
about something."

A snippet:

>"My workshops are entirely about meaning," says Butler, who was a teacher
>of English and mathematics for 15 years at Eton College. Sometimes a
>Shakespearean word is archaic or obscure. To help understand it, Butler
>advocates:
>"Say it in different ways, try out the vowels, and then hear this word and
>think, 'What are the echoes? How does it fit in with the rhythm of the
>line?' And then, it becomes quite exciting."
