No, Guthrie had just left the Vic.  It was Michel St. Denis.  The reason
for the delay is that Olivier caught the flu, and his voice was weak.
No doubt he'd have been healthy if they'd chosen another play, I write
sarcastically.

The opening was rescheduled to Friday 11/26, or 26/11, depending on
where you live.  Baylis died on the 25th, but the opening was not
further rescheduled.  Olivier was still not 100%, so actor John Laurie,
an excellent Shakespearean of the era, stood by to take over if Olivier
could not continue.  He was not needed.

Late in the run, 25 minutes of it was broadcast from the Old Vic by BBC
television.  Alas, it was not archived, but the photos of the TV cameras
around the Old Vic stage make a very strange picture - stranger than
you'd expect.
