An addendum. Jonathan Miller has been announced as Christopher Plummer's
director in Lear - his first time, I believe at Stratford Ont - or did
he do Peter Ustinov's Lear in the 80s? I found it funny, touching,
lacking in grandeur and Ustinov's Lear was certainly completely mad not
intermittently mad in the last scene in the play. William Hutt was the
best Fool I have ever seen. He played him as an aging old school chum
and hanger on.
Plummer will bring to Lear a very different quality indeed.
