I should also add that those who have misunderstood my argument need to
understand that there are two issues here: (1) the whole argument about
"universality" (whether of Shakespeare or not) and (2) how to present an
argument. These are separate issues, though they can be connected. My
posting was to ask the validity of logicality in Sam's argument (that
is, it was dealing with issue (2)), and this is where Karen's point
comes in. Thus I have never insisted that universality should be
understood empirically.
This, of course, is *not* to say that I believe in Shakespeare's
universality. (I don't.) As I mentioned, it is a separate issue.
