I want to affirm that Karen's heart is ever in the right place, even
when she goes astray. You may want to skip Douglas Brode's *Shakespeare
in Love.* It is not in the least academic, and as was entertainingly
pointed out in a Shakespeare Newsletter review, riddled with so many
errors that Oxford University Press really ought to recall it.

I know Karen well enough to realize that she could not have known this.

All the best,
Mike Jensen

Susan Marshall and John Carroll at California State University,
Stanislaus, teach an entire course centered around "Shakespeare in
Love"; you might also contact them re: their sources.

I was unduly sarcastic in my response to Marcia Eppich yesterday. Her
post caught me at a bad moment and I posted before thinking. I
apologize to her and to the list.

Cheers,
Karen Peterson
