Subject: Lear's Reflections, et cetera
My 17 year old son has been given an assignment to write about Lear,
notably about artistic influences from non-dramatic sources that may
have played upon Shakespeare, as well as subsequent artistic work
derived from or surrounding Lear. He is particularly interested in
music, in this vein -- being a jazz guitarist himself.
I do not know of any single early music, Elizabethan musical 'influence'
backgrounding Lear if any such existed. One thinks of settings of the
Absolom story in terms of ungrateful children, et cetera. I believe
Tallis or Byrd may have done one such
