Of course the action figure is not the first Shakespeare model to have a
"removable ... quill pen". The monument in Holy Trinity Church also has
a removable quill pen, that was apparently regularly stolen; which is
probably why no quill appears in Dugdale's rather inaccurate drawing of
the monument.
Obviously the Elizabethan artists who designed the monument missed a
trick. If they had only designed the monument as an enormous action
figure, they could have made a profitable sideline out of miniature
versions for Jacobean children. Meanwhile the clergy and churchgoers at
Holy Trinity could have amused themselves by posing the Shakespeare
monument in various positions, or balancing traffic cones on his head
(of course they would have had to invent traffic cones too).

Oh, this is poor stuff!
In Paperchase just before Christmas, I saw Jesus and Moses action
figures ("Complete with moving arms and gliding movement!"). The
manufacturers attempted to palliate some of the entertaining crassness
of the objects by printing some history about the personages on the back
of the box, together with some apposite Scriptural references.

I actually received one of these as a Christmas present. I daresay that
I have been having quite a bit of "fun" with it. A sticker excitingly
offers that he has "a removable quill pen and book", and his file on the
back of the package notes that he believes the pen is truly mightier
than the sword. Interesting to see that he has great likeness to the
Droeshout portrait. Who says Shakespeare isn't fun? Certainly much
smarter than He-Man.
