Technically, all the nationalities you mention are Asian so I don't
think there's one "correct" usage of the term.  The UK have a longer
history of dealing with India and also have more Indian immigrants so
it's logical that the term "Asian" would apply to them.  Likewise with
the US and the Orient.

Truth is, the term "Asia" was coined by Western powers and actually
covers a wide range of countries and ethnicities - all the way from the
Middle East to Siberia!
