Stephen C. Rose writes, "My personal use of the sonnet form suggests to
me that it is quite likely to evoke autobiographical material. Auden and
others notwithstanding."

OK: I am pleased you write sonnets, as do I, and in my case, at least so
far as I have written some, they are mind-constructs unrelated to
biography.  Which is not to say anything about what Will S. did, now is it?

OK: there are at least five sonnets in which Will S.  makes clear and
unmistakable references to the *I* of the poem as being Will, himself.
I cannot speak to that pattern being authorially directed throughout all
the sonnets, nor can anyone deny it either.

OK: inasmuch as we have *some* evidence in the sonnets by Will. S. of
his authorial intent to construct them autobiographically, does it not
behoove scholars to consider the fuller question?
