Subject: 15.1161 Portia Strikes Again!
Comment: RE: SHK 15.1161 Portia Strikes Again!

Mr. Lahey has confused Measure for Measure with The Merchant of Venice,
where Portia appears in the guise of an advocate. Her argument on behalf
of Antonio, and the court's on behalf of the condemned Alabama man who's
case began this string, is that execution of the prescribed penalty
would entail residual damages to the defendant in addition to those
prescribed in the sentence, and should not therefore be permitted.

One other Portia appears in the Shakespeare canon, the wife of Brutus in
Julius Caesar.
