It sounds like Borgesism to me.  In one of Borges' short stories a
scholar called Pierre Menard writes a version of Don Quixote that is
identical to the original, but without copying a single word from
Cervantes.  Menard's method was as follows ...

"Know Spanish well, recover the Catholic faith, fight against the Moors
or the Turk, forget the history of Europe between the years 1602 and
1918, be Miguel de Cervantes".
