Dear Dr. Friedman:

Last year I relied on Weir and the new anthology of Elizabeth's works
(Marcus, Mueller, and Rose). This was one of my successful courses.

There are plenty of other biographies that are better from a scholarly
perspective, but none are as able to grab student attention without
completely sacrificing intellectual rigor and general accuracy. The
other problem with alternative bios is that many start with her reign
and do nothing with her earlier life, or like Starkey's _Struggle..._,
they do the opposite.

Yours truly,
Rebecca

It might be too short and simple for undergraduates, but Rosalind K.
Marshall's "Elizabeth I" is a good introduction.

At 150 pages, and chock-a-block with pictures of the people and places
involved, it's a quick introduction that covers the main points of her life.
