What I find interesting about the Chandos portrait (from a purely
subjective point of view) is the introverted cautions character of the
subject. I would think that if it were a forgery the artist would not
have fashioned such characteristics for a person of stature.

A notice at the NPG exhibition states that the earring is integral to
the rest of the Chandos portrait.
