A very different viewpoint, but no less appreciative. I never met the
man, but over years of teaching Shakespeare I have come across several
of his interpretations of particular plays I liked so well that I saved
them for my students because they were at once sensible, profound and
readable. They're still on my list.
Theories come and theories go, but understanding and a good prose style
are always welcome.
I wish I'd known him.
