Subject: IMPORTANT Announcement: SHAKSPER's New Design

Dear SHAKSPER Subscribers:

During these past few months, a lot has been happening in my life, and as a result I have
not been as dedicated to getting SHAKSPER submissions into digests and distributed to
subscribers as frequently as I have previously. The reasons are complicated and personal.
However, I need to say from the beginning that until further notice any SHAKSPER
submissions should be sent to my personal address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Drum-roll,
Please!

I am pleased to announce that the new SHAKSPER web site is almost ready. This site has
been designed by Ron Severdia, a 21st century Renaissance man:
<http://www.severdia.com/portfolio/>. Ron is an actor, the founder of PlayShakespeare.com
<http://www.playshakespeare.com/news/3636-founder-ron-severdia-talks-about-
playshakespeare-on-cnn>, co-author of the O'Reilly publication _Using Joomla: Building
Powerful and Efficient Web Sites_, an accomplished, award-winning web designer, and
creative director of the web design company Kontent Design:

Eric Luhrs has been assisting in the migration to the new site and has earned every
SHAKSPEReans thanks for designing SHAKSPER's first web presence <www.shaksper.net> and
his unflagging technical assistance to all things SHAKSPEReans for many, many years.

Over the next day or possibly two, I will be distributing the submissions that have been
collecting in my mailboxes. When I finish, SHAKSPER's old site will go down for several
weeks as the three of us work on the migration and as I learn the procedures I will need
to know in Joomla to run the new site and to replace the L-Soft Listserv software with
the more up-to-date Joomla apps to distribute SHAKSPER digests to the membership.

SHAKSPER will remain primarily an e-mail distribution list but with a powerful new web
presence that will enable me to do many things I have been unable to do with the existing
site. With the new applications, I will no longer have to distribute SHAKSPER digests in
ASCII format. I have some ideas about a possible new SHAKSPER Roundtable that I will
announce when the new site is ready. The new site will also highlight some of the latest
SHAKSPER innovations like the SBReviews, the peer-reviewed book reviews project with its
distinguished panel. I will have complete control over mounting the content to the site
for a faster turn over. I plan to be sharing the teaching tools that I have developed
during my 40-year teaching career. I will have a running section for Calls for Papers and
Announcements among other things. Additionally, I will have the capability to collect
donations from anyone who wishes to give to help me defray the costs of running SHAKSPER,
costs that have come directly out of my pocket for most of the past twenty years of
SHAKSPER's existence.

When I complete the submissions that await me, I will announce more of the details about
what will be happening during the transfer to the new web site. However, what everyone
needs to remember is that from now on and until further notice, all submissions to
SHAKSPER or messages to me need to be sent to my personal e-mail address at
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and they will not be distributed until the new site is operational.

Thanks for everyone's support over the years and for making SHAKSPER the oldest Internet
electronic Shakespearean discussion group, now in its twenty-seconded year of continuous
service to the Shakespeare academic community.

There will be more to come in my final announcement from this site.

Best wishes to all,
Hardy M. Cook, Ph.D.
