Global Shakespeare is a new research and teaching collaboration between University of Warwick & Queen Mary University of London. We are looking to recruit two Research Fellows to contribute to Global Shakespeare research, teaching and international networking. 

 

Regular travel between the two sites will be required and office space will be available to the postholders at both locations. 

 

There is some flexibility in the candidates’ areas of specialisation. Interest in and expertise in new media will be especially valued, and the command of a language other than English is desirable.

Job Description

Job Purpose 

 

Contribute to Global Shakespeare research, teaching and international networking by assisting the Academic Director on research and teaching projects, archiving and extending collaborative contacts, and producing own research in publications that develop and enhance the reputation of Global Shakespeare internally and externally. 

 

The postholder will be under the supervision and direction of Professor David Schalkwyk, Academic Director Global Shakespeare at Queen Mary University of London and the University of Warwick. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

 

There is some flexibility in the candidates’ areas of specialisation. We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to contribute to Global Shakespeare as a centre for innovative research, a focus for teaching and pedagogy and the locus of collaborative relationships between Queen Mary University of London, the University of Warwick, and the global community of Shakespeare scholars and theatre practitioners. Interest in and expertise in new media will be especially valued, and the command of a language other than English is desirable. 

 

Global Shakespeare is a joint project with Queen Mary University of London. Regular travel between the two sites will be required and office space will be available to the postholder(s) at both locations. 

 

Research 

 

1. Establish a sound base within Global Shakespeare in order to pursue individual and collaborative research of high quality. Support Global Shakespeare fully in the preparation of material required for the research evaluation. 

 

2. Promote collaborative and interdisciplinary research at an international level that reflects the aims and objectives of Global Shakespeare. 

 

3. Contribute to the editing and dissemination of the electronic journal “Global Shakespeare”. 

 

4. Participate in the gathering and publication of an archive pertaining to research, teaching, performance and media presence of Global Shakespeare across the world. This will include managing archives, websites and new media, and the establishment of online teaching programmes. 

 

5. Publish research in appropriate journals and publish and disseminate the result of research and scholarship in other outlets. 

 

6. Attend and present research findings and papers at academic and professional conferences, and contribute to the external visibility of Global Shakespeare. 

 

7. Contribute to preparing proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g. for funding and contractual purposes to support the Global Shakespeare research strategy. 

 

8. Draft research reports for the Director. 

 

 

Teaching 

 

9. Contribute to the teaching and learning programmes of Global Shakespeare, in particular the Associate Student module at Undergraduate level. 

 

 

Administration and Other Activities 

 

9. Undertake such specific departmental roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the Director. 

 

10. Administer conferences, seminars and events in the Global Shakespeare programme. 

 

11. Attend meetings and participate (where necessary) in other committees and working groups within Global Shakespeare, the Faculties and the Universities. 

 

12. Participate in relevant professional activities. 

 

13. Engage in continuous professional development. 

 

14. Undertake external commitments that enhance the reputation of Global Shakespeare and its collaborating universities. 

 

15. Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of work.
