Subject: Birthday Celebrations

I will be participating in a local celebration of Shakespeare's birthday
in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, during this week. I have been invited to say
something about the tradition of such celebrations and would be
interested to hear of other planned celebrations this week. Have others
noticed the very imaginative on-line event planned for Friday at
http://www.campus.bt.com/CampusWorld/pub/Shakespeare/index.html

I would also be interested to hear of what traditions exist at Stratford
and how they came into being. Where, for example, did the tradition
about nightingales not singing until 23 April in Stratford originate,
and do Stratfordians still listen for nightingales on the appropriate
day?
